Message from the Director

The Materials Science and Engineering Program at USF is interdisciplinary and is supported by a core group of faculty from the Colleges of Engineering and Arts and Sciences.  The Program offers a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering (MS-MSE) and a Graduate Certificate in Materials Science and Engineering.  An undergraduate Minor is in development.  MSE is interdisciplinary in nature.  Our programs focus on applying the fundamental principles of physics and chemistry to engineering of materials.  The MS-MSE curriculum is flexible, with each student’s curriculum designed individually, drawn from courses supported by the core and other materials science research faculty across USF.  Thus, students have potential to develop specialized skills in focused areas of materials such as electronic materials, nanomaterials, biomaterials and polymers after equipping themselves with core, fundamental strengths.  Students can pursue a master’s thesis within the program with faculty across the USF campus engaged in materials science and engineering research.  Students are prepared for industrial positions, or to pursue Ph.D. programs in science and engineering, including our USF Engineering Science Ph.D. program working within faculty research groups in several of our engineering departments.

I welcome your interest in our MS-MSE program.  Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions.
